Father Scott Honored with Great Preacher Award

The Dominican friars of the Province of St. Albert the Great recently presented Father Scott Donahue with the Great Preacher Award at the 4th Annual Provincial’s Dinner at the Union League Club of Chicago. The award is given to those who proclaim the Gospel by their preaching, their lives, and their service to others. From their enormous hearts, the love of God and God’s people shines bright.

The Provincial’s Dinner gathers friends of the Dominican Province of St. Albert the Great and many ministries throughout the Central United States. The dinner celebrates tradition, honors great preaching, recognizes the pursuit of truth, and invests in the formation of young friars. From their beginning more than 800 years ago, the Dominican Order has relied entirely upon the generosity of others to carry on their work, and the Provincial’s Dinner reflects that mission.

“I’m deeply grateful to the Dominican Community whose ministry is in service of preaching the word of God as they work in parishes, teach, and work among the poor throughout the world,” said Father Scott. “I am also grateful to Cardinal Cupich for offering the Invocation and for his kind words about Mercy Home at the dinner celebration.”

Father Scott added: “What I appreciate most and enjoy about receiving this honor is having the opportunity to speak to those attending the event about the 133-year-old mission of Mercy Home for Boys & Girls, giving compassion, hope, and healing to the children and families entrusted to our care.”
