A Virtual Community of Faith

A Virtual Community of Faith

I am incredibly proud of Sunday Mass at Mercy Home. It plays an important role in the Chicagoland Catholic community and provides spiritual nourishment to thousands. And, as you can probably imagine, it’s a big project to put together each week.

When viewers like you tune in, you don’t see what I and the other celebrants see: the production crew! It takes a team of over a dozen people—highly trained television professionals—to put our TV Mass together so that we can broadcast the parish of the airwaves each week. Although you can’t see them, they’re in our TV chapel with us and in the control room, ensuring that the Mass will be flawless for everyone who counts on us for comfort, worship, and fellowship.

I wanted to mention them to you this month because it occurred to me that most people don’t think about all the hardworking folks behind the scenes when they watch our Mass…but the truth is that we couldn’t go on without their dedication, talent, and faith in our ministry.

Sunday Mass at Mercy Home has been produced at our Home since 1993, and many of the same production crew members who began with us are still here. What a testament to the work we are doing and their wonderful commitment to this work! They are part of what makes this a true community of faith.

After reading this, I know you will want to join me in thanking our production team for their hard work throughout the year to make sure that our TV Mass is there for the ill, elderly, and homebound in our community. You may never see their faces, but they are a key part of our faith community—as much as the celebrants, the congregants, the musicians, and the thousands who worship with us each week from their homes.

This month, as you pray for the Sunday Mass community, please also remember the good people who work behind the scenes to bring this important program into your home. And in return, please be assured of your place in my prayers and the prayers of the entire Mercy Home family.
