Mercy Home President & CEO Fr. Scott Donahue was presented with an award at the Knights of Columbus Columbian Booster’ 39th Honors Night this spring. The award, a statue of Knights of Columbus founder Fr. Michael J. McGivney, recognized his contributions to the community.
Fr. Scott praised the dedicated individuals who help our young people create lasting change. “While I am honored by the award, I accept it on behalf of my outstanding coworkers at Mercy Home for Boys & Girls, who shine God’s light into the lives of so many children and families in need throughout the year,” he said. “Truly, in their work, they embody Blessed Fr. McGivney’s mission to serve and to enhance life for others.”
A member of the organization’s Holy Family Council 11981, Fr. Scott was honored along with Jeff Griggs, Chicago Archdiocesan Chairman, Lincoln Park Council 16161, Tom Heidenfelder, Queen of Peace Council 3954, and Michael Schnabel Intellectual Disabilities Chairman-North Trinity Council 3755. “I am honored to be in their company as we work together to serve our brothers and sisters as the Gospels instruct us to do,” Fr. Scott said.
The Knights of Columbus is a global Catholic fraternal service organization. Its councils provide members and their families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Catholic Church, the community, families, and young people. Its councils have supported Mercy Home in numerous ways over the years, but particularly during our March for Kids campaign, collecting donations are Chicago-area parishes.
“I am so grateful to the Knights of Columbus for all that their councils have done for Mercy Home here in the Chicago area, particularly around March for Kids,” Fr. Scott said. “Thanks to their support, our young people receive the care they need when they come to us, the tools they need to build brighter futures for themselves and their families, and the encouragement and inspiration they need to enhance life for others.”
Fr. Scott was previously honored by the South and South Suburban Grand Knight and Past Grand Knights of Columbus for his work in the community and service to the church. And in 2020, he was asked to address “The Gathering IX” sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. Held at Holy Family Parish in Inverness, Ill., the theme of that event was Power of Purpose.
